The xID Service is supplementary to BankID and is based on previous use of BankID from the end-user device. Hence, end-user need to be users of BankID in order to get access to the xID Service. Merchants may on the other hand use the xID Service without using the BankID Service. The service (optionally) includes step-up to BankID if the end-user cannot be determined via device detection, .
The xID Service is available as an IDP-option via the OpenID COnnect Plattform from BankID Norge.
