The xID Service is supplementary to BankID and is based on previous use of BankID from the end-user device. Hence, end-user users need to be users of BankID in order to get access to the xID Service. Merchants may on the other hand use the xID Service without using the BankID Service. The service (optionally) includes step-up to BankID if the end-user cannot be determined via device detection.
The xID Service is available as an IDP-option in the OpenID Connect Plattform from BankID Norge.
Example/demo web applications (ie. BankID OIDC Clients), with corresponding source code on GitHub, are available to start exploring the BankID OIDC Service.
